Olive Who?

My name is Celeste Olivares.

Welcome to the Outré! Formerly ‘Gypsy by Olive’, now fully embracing my outré self out here, on the edge of the world.

I design and create custom, handwoven necklaces (primarily) and the occasional bracelet or such wearable art - it is the uniqueness of handwork, creating one-of-a-kind pieces, made of a particular joy that I find in stringing beads and weaving and/or knotting cord. I am drawn to this work. I cannot help it, it is the driving nature of creative outlet in my existence. This is work infused by love and requires a meditative level of attention and patience. The process is intuitive and I am heavily guided by the beads and the work that is being created.

The type of jewelry-making I craft, called needle-weaving, involves a tight, figure-eight weave, making a rope-like cord on which beads may be beautifully showcased. This work was handed down to me personally by a woman of proud gypsy blood, hence the former business name. My offerings are expanding and while I will be forever grateful to the woman who gave me her blessing to carry her work forward with my own voice, the constancy of change drives me forward.

A friend called me Olive quite candidly, and they say, you cannot pick your nicknames.  Nicknames don't particularly stick to me.

I inevitably will always be Celeste, but I will always be ‘the Olive’.

Whimsy has been my recent inspiration, creating lightweight felted wool pompom earrings that add a pop of color to your wardrobe and therefore your world. Who doesn’t need some levity these days?

My current obsession, and I do mean obsession, is designing, hand knotting, and making mala beads. I thoroughly enjoy the process as a meditative practice & especially LOVE integrating the repurposed silk sari tassel, piece by piece, threaded in to complete each one.

All one-of-a-kind creations by my hands, with love, for you….

All these are currently available for purchase in Le Shop!

Welcome to my site!
